Content Description

The collection consists of photographs of various locations in Pierre (S.D.) and four panoramic photographs of the Badlands from around 1906-1907. The nine Pierre photographs include images taken in 1951 of the South Dakota State Capitol, Governor’s Mansion and Capitol Lake, the approach to the highway bridge over the Missouri River, the Hughes County Courthouse and other residential scenes. There is one additional color photo taken in April 1973 of the Soldiers and Sailors Building in Pierre, which at that time housed the Robinson Museum. There is also an undated photo of a boy at the Badlands. Additionally, the collection contains four panoramic images of the Badlands dating from 1906 or 1907. The images, mounted on card stock, measure 3 ½ x 11 ¾. There are no photographer markings on the images. In comparing the images, the photographer was generally standing in the same area, but took the photos facing different directions. A paper bag holding the images noted “Badlands Views taken about 1906-1907.”
