Content Description

The collection consists of seven photographs taken in the area of Old Stanley County (currently Stanley and Haakon Counties) dating to the 1900s. Images include buildings on the Jack Borden Road Ranch located along the Fort Pierre to Deadwood Trail, early townsite of Philip (S.D.), a photo of Alice Monroe aged 72, a widow who settled on section 11 of township 5 north range 25 east in Stanley County, a scene titled “Bachelor Parlor” showing a man sitting in the interior of his homestead building, cattle on Frozen Man Creek near Hayes (S.D.), vegetables presumably shown at a fair and a group of travelers with their wagon and horses titled “On the Way Home from Pierre S.D.” The images measure 4½ x 6½ and are mounted on similar decorative card stock measuring 7x9. No photographer marks are identified on the images.
