The collection consists of numerous postcards from various locations throughout South Dakota. Mainly consisting of images from the Black Hills and Badlands, the collection features various tourist attractions from throughout the state. The postcards roughly date from the 1930s to 1970s. Many of the postcards date to the 1960s and 1970s and show the various ways in promoting tourism in South Dakota. The collection consists of both real-photo and color linen postcards. The collection includes various postcards of the Badlands and Badlands National Park as well as various Black Hills scenes such as the Needles Highway, Pigtail Bridges—Black Hills—South Dakota, Sylvan Lake—South Dakota, Spearfish Canyon—South Dakota, Roughlock Falls—South Dakota, Rapid Canyon—South Dakota, Black Hills Playhouse—Custer State Park (S.D.), Sylvan Lake Hotel—South Dakota, Rushmore Cave (Keystone, S.D.), Terry Peak—Black Hills—South Dakota, Petrified Forest (Edgemont, S.D.), Wind Cave National Park—South Dakota, Crystal Cave Park—South Dakota, Little Deer and the Crazy Horse Pageant (Hot Springs, S.D.). Other items include a packet of Corn Palace images from the 1970s, a landscape postcard of the Motel Rapid (Rapid City, S.D.), two cowboy poetry cards and two postcards from the State Benevolent Society of Brookings (S.D.).
