The collection consists of various items relating to the life of Alice Kundert and her family. Alice Kundert was born July 23, 1920 in rural Java (S.D.) in Campbell County to Otto and Maria (Rieger) Kundert. She was educated in rural grade school, Java High School and Norther State University (Aberdeen, S.D.). She was a rural school teacher for a number of years, spent several years in California, and later returned to Mound City (S.D.). Alice was elected to several position at the county and state level including Campbell County clerk of courts, Campbell County register of deeds, Mound City treasurer, South Dakota State Auditor and South Dakota Secretary of State. She also ran for Governor but was defeated. She was coordinator of school programs for the South Dakota Centennial in 1989 and was also a State Representative for the 23rd district. She held several positions with the Teen Age Republicans for more than 50 years. She held various positions on several state and national boards and organizations. She died on June 10, 2013. The collection comprises three main parts. The first is various documents on her family history and heritage. The second, her various work and service with the Republican Party in South Dakota and Nationally and finally, a number of journals written by Alice from roughly the 1960s to 2010s. A brief account of the items are shown below in the box list. The collection is an accretion to H94-076, H97-030 and H2005-004.
