The collection consists of one, 157-page booklet titled, “A Sampling of the Irish of the Pierre/Fort Pierre (S.D.) Area.” Families with Irish heritage submitted entries for the book. The entries include history on the family’s Irish ancestors and their descendants. Some families provided images for the book. There are two tables of contents, in alphabetical order by local residents and in alphabetical order by Irish family name. There are also three appendixes to the book: known Irish families that did not provide entries, a list of St. Patrick’s Day Grand Marshals and a list of charter members for the Irish Club of Central South Dakota. The Irish in South Dakota Collection will be an open collection and will consist of future donations relating to Irish families in South Dakota. Box 4932B will be used specifically for future Irish in South Dakota collections.
