Irish Settlement of South Dakota: Irish Naturalization Records—Booklet
Content Description
The collection consists of a one hundred and sixty-eight-page spiral bound booklet titled, “Irish Settlement of South Dakota: Irish Naturalization Records.” The booklet is an index, specifically of Irish immigrants who filed for naturalization in South Dakota/Dakota Territory. The names are from the first papers index of naturalization records created by the South Dakota State Archives. As noted in the booklet, “The purpose of this document is to help determine the impact of Irish settlers and workers to South Dakota, and for families who wish to do research on their ancestors.” The names are indexed by County, then by the names of those naturalized in alphabetical order by surname with listing of the date of intent and location of the naturalization volume at the South Dakota State Archives. The Irish in South Dakota Collection will be an open collection and will consist of future donations relating to Irish families in South Dakota. Box 4932B will be used specifically for future Irish in South Dakota collections.
