The collection consists of World War I era photographs and guest lists for the Game Lodge at Custer State Park (S.D.). The World War I era images are one panoramic photo of the barracks of Company “F” of the 4th South Dakota Infantry at San Benito (TX) dated September 1916. The second image is a large (16x23) photograph of the roster of Company “F” of the 4th South Dakota Infantry. The photo includes the names of the officers and enlisted men, 148 men in all, plus the company mascot. It is also noted that five members of Company F are not in the picture. Additional materials include guest lists for the Game Lodge at Custer State Park, mainly from 1939 through the 1940s when it was operated by Chauncey Bates. Information on the guest books include guest names and home address of those who stayed at the lodge. Other information found on some of the guest books includes date and year of stay and duration. The collection also includes a promotional booklet, created by the Department of Agriculture titled, “The Sun Shines on South Dakota.” The booklet includes various narratives and statistics on agriculture and industry in South Dakota.
