Content Description

The collection consists of four photographs taken by Lawrence Sayre and Grace (Graham) Sather in the Black Hills. Lawrence was the donor’s father and Grace was the donor’s mother-in-law. The images were taken separately, in 1930 and 1935, while each vacationed in the Black Hills. Two of the images concern Sylvan Lake and the Sylvan Lake Hotel (S.D.). A description of the photos was provided by the donor. Photo 1 image of the Sylvan Lake Hotel after the fire of 1935 taken by Lawrence Sayre. The image shows the charred remains of the hotel. Photo 2 show a man and his horse amongst the destruction of a wooden building and a damaged fence, possibly from a storm. No additional information is known concerning this image. Photo 3 image of the Sylvan Lake Hotel gazebo and lake taken on August 5, 1930 Grace Sather is noted as standing in the middle of three women. Photo 4 Grace and a friend standing in front of a tourist cottage in Lead (S.D.).
