The collection consists of photo album pages with history and photographs of the Arne and Emma (Olsen) Enger family. Arne and Emma with their four oldest children left Norway and arrived in the United States in 1880. Having first settled with a brother of Arne’s in Iowa, the Enger family moved to Dakota Territory in 1884 in Arlington Township, Buffalo County. Arne and Emma’s nine children included Matilda, Borghild, Elvira “Vera,” Franklin, Otto, Karl, William, Ema “Dolly,” and Wilda “Babe.” The collection includes detailed genealogical information, mostly from census data, for each family member. The photo album includes a short narrative on the lives of each Enger child and their own families, which also includes photographs. The Enger’s second child Borghild, married Louis Johnson in 1900. Louis and his brother ran a general store in Interior (S.D.). The collection includes additional images of the Johnson family and the general store at Interior.
