Content Description

The collection consists of identified photocopies and additional photos added as an accretion to the Eliza Dibble Collection (H99-071). The original donation comprised of over 400 negatives of images taken by Eliza Dibble from the Webster and surrounding area post 1885. The images depict farm scenes, farm animals, houses, wagons, and many family groupings. The photocopies identify the negatives from the original donation. The glass plates were scanned and added to the South Dakota Digital Archives, the information provided in the photocopies will be added to the online metadata at a future date. Additional photographs accompanying the donation include photos, cabinet cards and postcards. General topics include Roslyn (S.D.), Pickerel Lake (Day County), various homes in Day County, grain elevators, a baseball game, winter scenes, early automobiles, the Chamberlain Sanitarium in Chamberlain (S.D.), photos of school children and teachers, threshing machines, Fort Sisseton, automobile races, an Indian Mission near Sisseton (S.D.), photos of a John William Barrass, wedding and birth announcements, and a Roslyn High School graduation announcement. Three identified photographers include Miss E. M. Cowen—Photo Studio (Webster, S.D.), Ole Heggelien—Photo Studio (Webster, S.D.) and Star Gallery—Photo Studio (Webster, S.D.). The collection is an accretion to H99-071.
