Content Description

The collection consists of one photograph (14 ½ x 16 ½ inch) featuring members of the Pierre Baseball Team, ca. 1890s. Nine of the plays are wearing “Pierre” jerseys. A young boy, presumably the bat boy, is laying across the bottom of the photo, next to some equipment. Another man, in the background, is not wearing a jersey and is presumably the manager or coach of the team. It is assumed that the photo was taken in a photo studio in Pierre. There are no identification marks on the photo. The photo is severely damage and broken into three large pieces. A small corner piece has also broken off. In addition, there are signs of water damage on the image. The photo was wrapped in acid free tissue paper to help stabilize the pieces. The photograph was transferred to the South Dakota State Archives by the South Dakota National Guard Museum.
