Fort Pierre (S.D.)--Bad River Bridge
Content Description
The collection consists of one black and white, cabinet card photo of a bridge over the Bad River in Ft. Pierre. The photo was taken by photographer Robert L. Kelly of Pierre. A caption is written on the back, “Bad River Bridge at 1st street, Ft. Pierre, So. Dak. 1894.” Eight people are seen in the photo, two standing, two on horseback, and two riding wagons. A sign on the top of the bridge reads, “Notice, any person riding or driving faster than a walk or driving more than 10 head of horses or cattle on or across this bridge will be fined not less than $5 nor more than $100. By order of the City Council” A sign on the cross beam of the bridge reads, “The Gillette-Herzog Mfg, Co. Builders Minneapolis, Minnesota 1894.”
