Harold Deal Collection
Content Description
The collection consists of World War II era photographs taken and collected by Harold Deal. Harold was born on May 26, 1916 at Kimball to Ernest and Marie Deal. He entered the Army on June 21, 1941 and served in the Pacific theatre including Guadalcanal, Bismarck Archipelago, and Luzon. He was discharged on October 3, 1945 and was recalled to active duty during the Korean War. Most of the images involve Basic Training at Camp Roberts, California. Troops passed through an intensive seventeen week training cycle while at Camp Roberts. Various training exercises and photos seen in the Deal collection include: marching, marching band, gas mask/chamber training, smoke screen training, machine gun training, parade, instructions on equipment, convoy, color guard, bunks, buildings, tents, barracks, and target practice.
