Content Description
The collection consists of one DVD of an oral history interview of John Allendorf. The interview was done on February 11, 1990 at John’s residence. The DVD shows several shots of the Allendorf homestead and buildings. Some topics covered in the interview include: midwives, homesteading, homestead laws, sod house construction, ranching, cattle and livestock, the Great Depression and Drought from 1934-1936, hay stations, post offices and country stores, Daviston, SD, local neighbors and rattlesnakes. John Allendorf was born January 17, 1918 at his parent’s homestead in the Date community of Perkins County. He attended school at the Date school and lived on the family farm until his retirement in the fall of 1992. He died on September 28, 2001 at Hettinger, ND. The interview runs 32 minutes long.
