Robert Sohrt Collection
Content Description
The collection consists of one DVD of an oral history interview of Robert Sohrt done through the Montana Veterans History Project and Montana Public Broadcasting on August 3, 2007. Sohrt enlisted with the Marines at Rapid City (S.D.) in 1943 at the age of 18. He served in the 1st Marine Division in the Pacific Theater of War. Sohrt mentions his time in basic training in San Diego and other activities during his enlistment. Sohrt describes his involvement in the Battle of Peleliu campaign September-November 1944 while serving with the 1st Marine Division. Peleliu had the highest casualty rate of any battle in the Pacific War. He was injured on October 18, 1944 and later shipped stateside for the remainder of the war.
