Content Description

The collection consists of seven images, one postcard, and one account book associated with the Chamberlain (S.D.) area in Brule County. The account book lists “Facts from the Eleventh Census” and is a personal account book published by the J. W. Orcutt store in Chamberlain (S.D.). The postcard is of the highway bridge across the Missouri River in Chamberlain (S.D.) and is placed in box 8535C. Two of the seven images are identified as being the “Overman” family. Edgar and Lizzie Overman are listed in the 1895 and 1900 South Dakota Census as living in West Point Township, north of Chamberlain, in Brule County. It is believed that these Overman’s are those mentioned in these images. The images include portrait photos, group images, and photos of buildings. Two of the images are of a similar house that has a school bell in the yard; this could be one of the early schoolhouses in the township. There is also an image of a man holding a bicycle.
