Charles A. Schweppe Collection
The collection consists of a hand written letter (two pages front and back) written by Charles Schweppe addressed from Sioux Falls (S.D.) to his Aunt Adele on December 5, 1904. At the time of the writing, Charles was a sophomore in high school and the letter offers some accounts of his high school days. The main emphasis of the letter concerns the South Dakota State Capitol Fight between Pierre and Mitchell in 1904. Charles describes the railroad company’s efforts in promoting Mitchell and Pierre. Charles alludes to going to both Mitchell and Pierre, but the main emphasis of the letter is his trip to Pierre, mainly concerning his experience with the railroad. Charles August Schweppe was born May 30, 1888 to Henry and Ada Schweppe who, according to the 1900 Federal Census, lived in Wellington Township in Minnehaha County.
