The collection consists of a number of family materials of Benjamin Leroy Simmons. Benjamin was born in 1903 to George and Lenora Simmons of Conde (S.D.). The collection consists of a number of family photographs (identified and unidentified), along with images of Conde. Benjamin had two older brothers, Lester and Ezra, and a younger sister Lillian. Benjamin went to elementary and high school in Conde graduating in 1921. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Northern State Teachers College in 1926. In the collection are two Conde High School memorabilia books compiled by Ben and his brother Lester, a family Bible, two photo scrapbooks, a family photo scrapbook, and a number of postcards. Many of the photo images date from 1916 to 1920. There are also seven charcoal and crayon drawings of Simmons family members. A box and folder list is included with the collection. The following materials were transferred to the museum of the South Dakota State Historical Society for consideration: pocket watch, ceramic coin bank with two lids, a napkin ring with the initials BLS 1921, various pins and medals, a ring, and a “tin-type” photo pin.
