Frank Tyrrell Collection
Content Description
The collection consists of photocopies of images and transcribed letters of Frank Tyrrell. Frank Tyrrell was born on June 12, 1915 in Bancroft (S.D.). In March of 1942 he went into the U. S. Army and served in the European Theatre and participated in five major battles during World War II. He was decorated with the ETO ribbon with five battle stars, combat infantry badge, Presidential Unit citation, and Bronze star with oak leaf cluster. The collection has a number of photocopies including: Frank Tyrrell’s obituary, a photo of Frank Tyrrell in uniform, a Welcome Dance invitation (April 1944), and two Western Union telegrams (November 1945). Also included are eighteen transcribed letters dating from April 1944 to October 1945. Some of the letters are addressed to Frank’s family in Bancroft (S.D.).
