Content Description
The collection consists of letters, photograph, postcard, yearbooks, diplomas and other various materials. Most of the items relate to Alice (Schomer) Tyler Wharton and Clayton Schomer. Joe and Hettie (Esther) Schomer of Fort Pierre had four children Alice, Clayton, Harold, and Joe. The majority of the collection consists of letters sent to Alice by her friend Laura (Strain) Diggins from the late 1910s to early 1920s. The letters offer insight into the social aspects of high school and college during that time period as well as events in and around Fort Pierre (S.D.). Other materials are also included in the collection and are described below in a content list which includes: images from the Pierre/Fort Pierre flood of 1952, Casey Tibbs and Rex Terry photos, postcards, diplomas, yearbooks, and a World War II ration book. Obituaries of Alice Wharton, Clayton Schomer, Laura Diggins, and Charles Wharton are included in the collection.
