Content Description

The collection consists of photographs collected by George Davis, a student who attended Columbus College (Chamberlain, S.D.) circa late 1910s. The collection mainly includes images of Columbus College students, some faculty, and a number of buildings. Included are train wreck images and construction images of the Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul railroad bridge at Chamberlain, built in 1923. Columbus College, a Catholic institution, was founded at Chamberlain on October 25, 1909 by Bishop Thomas O’Gorman to meet the educational needs of the youth of his diocese and to give young men the benefit of a higher education. The collection also includes a postcard of a burning grain elevator at Yale (S.D.).
