Content Description

The collection consists of one photo album and a number of loose panoramic photographs (3 ½” x 10”). Henry and Jennie Smith lived in Jackson Township, Charles Mix County and it is believed that many of the images are from that area and that they were taken from the 1910s to the 1930s. Various scenes in the collection include: the South Dakota State Capitol, the Missouri River, Platte (S.D.), bridge construction scenes and bridge opening (from the bridge across the Missouri River which opened September 1, 1925 near Wheeler (S.D.)), agricultural scenes, tornado damage from 1920, and threshing machines and crews. There are also a number of loose images with varying topics such as: a group of turkeys, a photo of an airplane, groups of people, farmsteads, cabins near a lake, and the ferryboat—Fawn. There are also unidentified images that do not appear to be from South Dakota.
