The collection consists of a nineteen page manuscript titled, “In a Place Called Ideal” compiled by Marjorie (Knapheide) Rice in 2009. The story is of Oliver and Mary (Brown) Knapheide and their children. The family filed for homestead plots on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in Ideal Township, Tripp County in 1908. The manuscript dates from the 1910s through the 1930s. The manuscript includes diary entries of Mary Knapheide from the 1930s, a chapter on the Dust Bowls and Great Depression, Native Americans on the Rosebud Reservation, the Ideal (S.D.) community, and printed-out images of the family.
