Content Description
The collection consists of five black and white photographs, mainly of Governor George T. Mickelson. Mickelson was governor of South Dakota from 1947 to 1951. The images are not dated and most do not contain any specific descriptions other than having Governor Mickelson in the photograph. Two of the images have written on the back “REA meeting” more than likely alluding to the South Dakota Rural Electric Association (SDREA). Two other images include a photo of Governor Mickelson with a group of twelve men (believed to be inside the Pierre Masonic Temple) and Governor Mickelson showing a group of children a spur. The fifth image does not include Governor Mickelson but was taken in the Governor’s office in 1947 and is labeled as “YCLGroup” alluding to the Young Citizens League.
