Content Description

The collection consists of fourteen scanned images (including some reverse captions) pertaining to Carl Riis who served in three Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camps throughout South Dakota. The three CCC camps include 1793, 2755, and 4275. Camp 1793 includes one scanned image of Fred B. Martin of Bonilla, SD near a CCC camp hospital in the fall of 1933. Carl was a member of Camp 1793 for a short time. Camp 2755 includes two scans: one of Carl Riis near a first aid sign and a scan of Carl Riis and Harold Jensen the caption on the back of the photo reads “First Aid, Carl Riis, 2755 and La Belle La Fatina (Harold Jensen) all ready to go out for a good time.” Carl Riis was an assistant director at Camp 2755 located twelve miles northeast of Custer, SD. Camp 4275 scans includes an aerial view postcard of American Island near Chamberlain, men around a campfire in 1937, Carl with a group of Camp 4275 supervisors, Carl with a group of camp workers, and two images of trucks and workers at the camp. Riis was listed as “Supervisory Personnel” at Camp 4275.
