Content Description

The collection consists of two manuscripts written by Russ Halter in 2005. The first is titled, “The Way We Lived, 1916-1936 – A Farm Childhood and Young Adulthood in Moody County, South Dakota.” This manuscript describes Russ’s school days, life on the farm, and his family. The Halter’s farm was near Flandreau (S.D.) in Moody County. This manuscript includes thirty-nine text pages with a few additional pages of photographs and memorabilia. The second manuscript is titled: “Memories of My Life in the Military Service, 1936-1946.” The manuscript covers Russ’s military service before and during World War II. The manuscript includes detailed accounts of military activities and names of various ships both in the Atlantic and Pacific theatres of war.
