Scope and Contents
This record group consists of records created and/or maintained by the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish, and Parks between 1857 and 2013 and includes administrative records such as annual reports, audits, budgets, property inventories, and correspondence; Game, Fish and Parks Commission meeting minutes and audio recordings; abstracts of title, deeds, and technical reconnaissance reports for lands purchased by the department; agriculture and grazing lease agreements; forest inventory records for Western South Dakota; forest fire incident reports; forest insect and disease control files; game studies and surveys; photographs and audiovisual materials used by the Division of Parks and Recreation in brochures, presentations, and other promotional activities; Youth Conservation Corps and Young Adult Conservation Corps grant program records; subject and conservation project files; and maps of state parks and other recreational areas. Earlier records created prior to 1945 were created by predecessor agencies such as the Department of Game and Fish and subsequently maintained by the Department of Game, Fish, and Parks.

Administrative History
The Division of Administration is responsible for the management of staff services utilized by all the operating divisions within the department. This includes such functions as financial control, legal counsel, information and education, engineering, land acquisition, and inventory and supply. The division also performs all license processing and fee collection activities and is responsible for overall policy development and strategic planning for the department.
