Scope and Contents
This collection is arranged alphabetically by county in which irrigation is to occur, thereunder alphabetically by surname of permit applicant/holder. A typical file contains the following: a Soil/Water Compatibility Permit and/or application form which lists the legal description and acreage of the land to be irrigated, legal description of the location of the water source, type of irrigation to be sued, crop(s) to be irrigated, water quality information, whether the permit was approved, disapproved, waived or approved with requirements, and the signature of the division director and date; water quality analysis from the Water Resources Institute at Brookings; soils information; recommendations and requirements made by Division of Conservation Personnel; and related correspondence.
Also includes three folders of soils and analysis data which need to be filed in the appropriate permit files, and one folder of water permit transfer notices.
A soil/water compatibility permit from the Dept. of Agriculture and a permit to appropriate water from the Water Management Board are both required and applications must be filed at the same time. The Dept. of Agriculture must approve the soil/water compatibility application before the Water Management Board can issue a water permit.
