The Enterprise Initiation Division's primary missions were to increase the amount of university-level research in the state, help with quality job creation by linking university expertise with business needs, and to extend expertise to the rest of the GOED staff.
Enterprise Initiation was responsible for the administration of the Future Fund - a research grant program created in 1987. Also, the division produced the "South Dakota Economic Developments" monthly newsletter and other GOED publications, facilitated press relations, and managed the GOED's information databases.
