Jackson & Washabaugh Counties School Census Reports, 1916 - 1978
Scope and Contents
This series contains the school census reports for the districts within both Jackson and Washabaugh counties from 1916 to 1978 with the majority of the reports coming from Jackson County. As these are the reports sent to the Department of School and Public land many contain only the student’s name, age and parent’s name but later reports (those after 1945) may contain information on student mental and physical disabilities.

Restrictions
Access to school census reports is partially restricted pursuant to SDCL 1-27-1.5(1) and FERPA. Individuals with appropriate identification can view their own records. All records may be opened to researchers with the written permission of the Department of Education.

Arrangement
Census reports are arranged chronologically with all districts foldered together under the same year in both counties. Jackson county census proceed those from Washabaugh. See box list for more information.
