Scope and Contents

This accession contains Perkins County Young Citizens League records from 1925 through 1969. These records include constitution and by-laws, charters, meeting minutes, and member lists. The Young Citizens League (YCL) was a student group focused on citizenship, patriotism, and personal health. They pledged to “do something each day to improve the standards of my home, my school and my community…” The first YCL was introduced in Brown County, South Dakota by Michael M. Guhin in 1912. In 1926 the YCL became an official state program, and by 1935 it had spread to other states.
