This record group contains records created and maintained by the South Dakota Department of Education and Cultural Affairs and includes meeting minutes, photographs, publications, correspondence, audio recordings of speeches and presentations, videotape recordings, grant files, school building specifications, budgets and other financial reports, architectural drawings of historic buildings, administrative subject files, posters, and annual reports.

Administrative History
The Office of Cultural Preservation (later the Office of History) of the Department of Education and Cultural Affairs was responsible for coordinating South Dakota's archaeological research, museums, historical preservation, and historical resources in a program designed to preserve the natural and cultural heritage of the state by working closely with the South Dakota State Historical Society and other local, state, and federal agencies.
