Consists of subject and correspondence files maintained by the Department of Education and Cultural Affairs Director of Cultural Preservation between 1968 and 1986 and includes memoranda and correspondence; staff notes; condition and survey reports for State Historical Society manuscript holdings; and staff and consultant reports pertaining to issues and projects such as the Indian Oral History Transcription Project at the University of South Dakota, Pioneer Women’s History Project, the South Dakota newspaper microfilming project, the State Museum, and the transfer of records to the State Archives.
