This record group contains records created and maintained by the South Dakota Department of Education and Cultural Affairs and includes meeting minutes, photographs, publications, correspondence, audio recordings of speeches and presentations, videotape recordings, grant files, school building specifications, budgets and other financial reports, architectural drawings of historic buildings, administrative subject files, posters, and annual reports.

Administrative History
The Division of Vocational and Technical Education and the State Board of Vocational Education were created in 1965 by the South Dakota Legislature for the purpose of coordinating and promoting programs and courses of study in the field of vocational training and technical education in South Dakota. The Division of Vocational and Technical Education provided vocational education, guidance, counceling, and training to youth and adults who are striving to make an occupational choice, entering the labor force, and/or seeking to upgrade their occupational competencies by learning news skills.
