Scope and Contents

This accession consists of files created and maintained by the State Supervisor of the South Dakota Association of Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA Inc.) between 1951 and 1979. Formally established in 1946, Distributive Education Clubs of America is an association of secondary and post-secondary students and teachers dedicated to preparing leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, management, and other business areas. State departments of education hold DECA Inc.’s charter for the high school division in all fifty U.S. states. College charters are held by either state departments of education or a non-profit corporation.

Records include memoranda and correspondence; annual reports to the State Board of Vocational Education; state-wide expenditure reports; meeting minutes; annual program operation fact sheets submitted by the State Supervisor to local school district superintendents (include total student earnings from on-the-job training, expenditures, and reimbursements); student enrollment statistics; conference programs; news releases; and black and white photographs.
