Scope and Contents
This series consists of eight volumes of original appraisal records for lands adjacent to the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad in Brown, Day, Edmunds, Grant, Roberts, and Walworth Counties, South Dakota; the city of Aberdeen, SD; and McIntosh County, North Dakota. Records for each valuation section include plats of lands adjacent to the railroad right-of-way and the assessed valuations of those properties; geographical and topographical descriptions of the surrounding environment; appraisal questionnaires completed by local residents concerning the value of privately owned land adjacent to the railroad that had been recently sold; and appraiser opinions based on interviews with informants believed to be familiar with local land values.
