Scope and Contents
This series contains 46 digital photographs taken by Jeff Mammenga during the Capitol Centennial time capsule sealing ceremony on June 30th, 2010.
In recognition of the State Capitol’s centennial, Gov. Mike Rounds presided over the sealing of a time capsule. The time capsule, made from marble reclaimed during the Capitol's renovation, resides in a locked glass display case immediately adjacent to the building's front doors. Among items placed in the current time capsule is a South Dakota Quarter set from the U.S. Mint; Gov. Rounds' 2010 State of the State Address; photos and personal messages from state and tribal officeholders; a number of current newspapers; video footage of the 2010 Capitol Centennial Celebration; a state flag flown at the Capitol; history books; and a sealed, handwritten letter to whomever is the Governor of South Dakota in 2110.
