Scope and Contents

"Fare Thee West" is a 28-minute color movie which was created to promote South Dakota tourism. The movie contains extensive footage of on-location filming of MGM Studio's "How The West Was Won." Nauman Films of Custer, S.D. did the state filming.

In 2005, the original 16mm film was sent to Archival Film Services to be cleaned and digitized. In 2017, the digital files were added to the Archives' digital preservation system for better long-term preservation.
