Scope and Contents
Consists of a proclamation issued by Governor Mickelson in 1990 declaring it a "Year of Reconciliation." The proclamation calls for Indian and non-Indian people of the state to “set aside their differences so that mutual respect and understanding will grow between the two groups.” Signatures on the proclamation include George S. Mickelson, Governor; Paul Iron Cloud, President, Pine Ridge Sioux Tribe; Steve Cournoyer, Chairman, Yankton Sioux Tribe; Romona Johnson Wilson, Lower Brule Sioux Tribe; Calvin Rondell, Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux Tribe; Judith Petersen, President, Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe; Ralph Moran, President, Rosebud Sioux Tribe; Charles Murphy, Chairman, Standing Rock Sioux Tribe; Vernon Mestes, Vice Chairman, Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe; Don McGhee, Crow Creek Sioux Tribe; and Joyce Hazeltine, Secretary of State.
In 2019, the proclamation was scanned and added to the Archives’ Digital Collections for better long-term preservation and access.
