Administrative History

In 1983, Governor Janklow issued an executive order changing the name of the Bureau of Industrial and Agricultural Development to the Department of State Development, and transferring the Division of Tourism and its functions to the new department. The department was abolished in 1987 and its functions divided between two newly created agencies: the Governor's Office of Economic Development, and the Department of Tourism.
