Due to the nature of responsibilities of the Dept. of Health, many records contain confidential information about individuals, which is restricted from public access. Restricted record series are identified in this guide.
Administrative History
The Department of Health was created by Executive Order in 1973. DOH holds jurisdiction over all agencies and committees overseeing health services well as the clinics, schools and other medical facilities throughout the state of South Dakota. The Executive Order which created the DOH also specified the creation of the Office of Inspector of Mines as well as the Food Service Advisory Council.
The DOH briefly had jurisdiction over the Division of Sanitary Engineering before this was moved to the Dept. of Environmental Protection.
