This series contains subject files created and maintained by J. R. Fishburne, the director of the Office of Cultural Preservation, from 1979 to 1997. Topics include paleontology, the Oahe Chapel, the State Historical Society, the State Arts Council, the South Dakota Committee on the Humanities, state museums, tourism, and Wounded Knee. Files include correspondence, meeting minutes, plans, reports, catalogs, newspaper clippings, and legislation.

Scope and Contents The collection consists of a DVD of a Minnesota family's trip through South Dakota in August 1939. The film footage was taken by Albert “Ollie” Fretheim of Albert Lea, Minnesota. There are four films in the collection. The first two films are of the Fretheim and Vollum families in Minnesota. The second two films show footage of the trip to the Badlands and Black Hills in August 1939.
