Scope and Contents These oral history recordings were produced as joint projects between the University of South Dakota in Vermillion and the South Dakota State Historical Society. The South Dakota Oral History Project (SDOHP) focused on collecting interviews with South Dakota residents whose recollections dated back to 1900 and before. Scope and Contents This series contains correspondence and policy documents related to the Oral History Research Center, which was established by state appropriation in 1970 and was an outgrowth of the American Indian Research Project begun at the University of South Dakota. Although the State Legislature ended funding for the program in 1980, some money was used to transcribe certain tapes in the collection.
