Scope and Contents

This series contains abstracts of assessment for 1970-1971. An abstract of assessment is the official certification of the values for real and personal property for the coming tax year. Many county auditors use this report when calculating tax rates and to establish tax bases for each property class. Assessments are arranged alphabetically by county with 1970 assessments in Box 1 and 1971 assessments in Box 2.

Scope and Contents This series contains two oversize volumes - one that records deeds and claims filed with the Register of Deeds from 1877 to 1882, and another that is an alphabetical name index to the first volume. The abstract records include the name of the claimant, date, and legal description of the property. Scope and Contents This series contains miscellaneous papers filed in proceedings before the Lawrence County Circuit Court between 1881and 1966 and includes subpoenas, bonds, indictments, arrest warrants, bills of exception, deeds, title abstracts, orders, motions, depositions, court calendars, jury lists, transcripts, and miscellaneous court case files. Of particular note is the case file for the State of South Dakota vs. Andrew Rolando, which includes witness testimonies and crime scene photographs. ...
