General Land Office - Dependent Resurvey Notes and Plats, 1946 - 2012

Scope and Contents This series contains the field notes and plats prepared by the U.S. Department of the Interior for resurveys of lands in South Dakota. Survey plats measure approximately 18” x 24” and are stored in map drawers. Survey notes come two different ways – written directly on the plat, or separately on 8.5”x 11” paper. Separated survey notes are stored in file cabinets in the Archives Processing Room.

Scope and Contents This series consists of the original handwritten notes taken by surveyors during initial boundary surveys, resurveys, and survey amendments in South Dakota. Includes surveys of township, range, and subdivision lines; standard and parallel guide meridian lines; state boundaries; and Indian and military reservation boundaries. Also includes field notes for mineral surveys, homestead entry surveys, and town site surveys.
